[Some] medical debt is coming off credit reports
As of July 1, 2022, some types of medical debt will no longer be tracked on credit reports. There are two categories of medical debt that qualify:
paid-off medical debt will not show on credit reports at all, even if a debt collector got involved before the debt was settled.
unpaid medical debt will not be added to a credit report until a year has passed. This grace period has been just six months.
The good news:
Consumers looking to borrow more money will not be hampered by most medical debts at all.
The bad news:
For someone filing bankruptcy, it’s more difficult to capture all the creditors by relying on credit reports alone. That’s why at Selby Legal we offer an in-depth free consultation during which you’ll be asked a lot of very detailed questions, including questions about your medical history.
