A look at I-81 in New York
Interstate 81 runs north-to-south in central New York. Replacing routes 2 and 11 for much traffic, the New York portion of I-81 was built in the years from 1954 to 1968, at a cost of $270 million. Drivers can take this highway from the Pennsylvania border to the Thousand Islands, and from there cross into Canada.
As with many interstate highways, state troopers are often on the job. Drivers who are pulled over in I-81 might have to go to any number of local courts, including those in Barker, Binghamton, Chenango, Cortlandville, Dickinson, Hastings, Kirkwood, Sandy Creek, Triangle, and West Monroe., among others.
