Driving where the sidewalk ends

Most drivers are aware that sidewalks are for pedestrians only, but sometimes pavement markings or conditions can make it difficult to see where the road ends and the sidewalk begins. It’s also not hard to imagine someone trying to avoid a congestion issue and, thinking that they are driving on the shoulder, actually driving on the sidewalk instead.

VTL 1225(a) lists driving on the sidewalk as a two-point traffic violation, with a fine of up to $293 for a first offense if you plead guitly as charged.
